Who can Register for GST in India (ELIGIBILITY)

Normal Taxpayer

If your business has an annual turnover exceeding ₹40 lakh (or ₹20 lakh in special category states), you must register for GST. This applies to most businesses operating in India.

Composition Scheme

Small businesses with an annual turnover of up to ₹1.5 crore (₹75 lakh in some states) can register for GST under the Composition Scheme. This allows them to pay tax at a fixed rate with reduced compliance, though they can't claim input tax credit or do inter-state sales.

Casual Taxable Person

If you occasionally supply goods or services in a different state (e.g., during exhibitions or trade fairs), you are required to register for GST as a casual taxable person. This registration is valid for 90 days and can be extended.

Non-Resident Taxable Person

Foreigners or businesses located outside India who supply goods or services within the country must register for GST as non-resident taxable persons. This temporary registration is also valid for 90 days.

E-Commerce Operator

Anyone operating or managing online platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, or any

independent e-commerce site must register for GST, regardless of turnover.

Input Service Distributor (ISD)

If your business has a head office that distributes input tax credit to multiple branches, you need to register for GST as an Input Service Distributor to manage credit allocation.

TDS / TCS Deductor under GST

Government departments or e-commerce operators responsible for deducting TDS or TCS must also register for GST as per the GST Act.
